Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his family and community service. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. Also, he was one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. All three were All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in all of the nation. During his three years as Oklahoma's starting quarterback The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and captured two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work throughout his time at college. After college, he moved into Tampa and played nine years for the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro for three occasions. Then he started his career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when, in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of the ten outstanding young people across the country. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. He was a captain in 1975. was the captain of the squad. In 1993, he was named assistant director of the University of South Florida. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor, who presented this award.
